L-3 Communications Telemetry-West Announces its Revolutionary
TCM-930 Microwave Radio System

The TCM-930 Adds Next-Generation Capabilities to L-3’s Growing Line of Microwave Radios

San Diego, CA, June 2, 2003 — L-3 Telemetry-West, a division of L-3 Communications Corporation (NYSE:LLL), announced today that it is introducing a breakthrough in microwave radio systems, the TCM-930. The TCM-930 is the only radio system on the market to provide the flexibility of a modem and the performance of a fiber-rate wideband, point-to-point microwave radio in a highly cost-effective and miniaturized system able to transmit voice, data and video for an array of applications, including disaster recovery, emergency restoration of wideband links and other temporary telecommunications services, such as network expansion. L-3 Telemetry-West’s TCM-930 radio system is currently in production, with orders pending from telecommunications companies and military organizations worldwide.

Building on a 30-year legacy of advanced, rugged, field-tunable and programmable microwave radio technology, the TCM-930 allows users to program modulation, user interfaces and frequencies — all within a compact, self-contained package that will operate in almost any environment on the face of the earth. The system’s small size and relatively low weight make transportation and integration fast and easy, even under the most extreme conditions. Additionally, TCM-930 radio systems are available in most common carrier and military frequency bands and are fully tunable across each offered band to ensure unparalleled flexibility and reconfigurability.

“ The availability of the TCM-930 ensures that our most valued global common carrier customers will be able to extend their disaster preparedness plans to handle wideband emergency restoration, plus have a valuable network asset that will place them in a good position to respond quickly in today’s competitive environment,” said Bob Kerrigan, L-3 Telemetry-West’s marketing director of microwave radio products. “What’s more, our domestic and international military customers can now deploy fiber-rate bandwidth radios — featuring our legendary flexibility, durability and rugged architecture — directly into strategic and tactical battlefield networks where reliable performance, quality of engineering and construction are essential.”

The modulation techniques of the TCM-930’s internal modem are field programmable between 4 and 256 QAM, allowing customers to modify occupied bandwidths depending on link distance and data rate. User interfaces are built standard into the radio terminal and are field adaptable from multiple DS3/E3 to STM-1/OC3 to 100 Mbps 100BaseT. Data rates are variable from 19 to 200 Mbps and are applicable for NRZ clock and data interfaces, as well as standard HDTV Direct Broadcast Video (DVB) interfaces. The radio terminal can be configured as a duplex transceiver, or as transmitter and receiver terminals for simplex operation. Customer interface options can be changed in the field by exchanging a modem daughter card and customer interface panel.
