Vista — Java-Based Software Platform

Overview

Vista is the software platform and infrastructure for Astra, VistaPro, and the System 550*, providing a powerful environment for system operation and management, including system setup and control, project/mission database management, and system status and monitoring    Vista’s distributed, network-oriented architecture provides great flexibility in system design by allowing functions to be spread across multiple computers on a network.  In addition to supporting capabilities developed by L-3 TW, Vista allows you to add your own software or hardware modules so that a system can be augmented to support unique requirements.

Powerful System Management Tools – The System Manager is the main system user interface used to work with Vista modules and applications.  It provides an easy-to-use interface with features such as a toolbar, the Navigation Tree, multiple workspaces, window docking/tiling/cascading, and the Status bar.  Module setup information is stored in standard SQL databases that can be accessed through any SQL database management system (DBMS), ORM wrapper, or directly through SQL or JDBC calls (MS Access is normally provided with the software).  The Project Manager is used to create, compile, load, and save Vista projects from module databases as well as to monitor module status once running.  The Event Monitor allows you to monitor various types of events, such as setup events, error messages, and alarms occurring in the system.

Robust Application Programming Interface (API) – The Java API allows integration of other software with Vista.  The API is the same as that used by the system internally and by the user interface, providing full system control and monitoring to user applications.  The API also provides access to the event system to allow user software to monitor events and also generate events.  The Module Framework API provides the interface and tools for users to integrate their own software and hardware modules.
