Heritage:
Telemetry-West draws on over 50
years of technological innovation and market leadership
in the telemetry,
test, and data acquisition marketplace, combining
the unmatched expertise of L-3's former Conic, Southern
California Microwave, and Telemetry & Instrumentation
businesses to create a single, turnkey solutions
provider. |
History
In October of 2001, L-3 Communications
announced the formation of Telemetry-West, which combined
three of its San Diego-based telemetry divisions into
a single company capable of providing a full range of
telemetry and terrestrial communication solutions. The
businesses included:
Conic, a world-leader in airborne telemetry, space TT&C,
tactical receivers, tactical receivers, HF/SSB,
and
microwave radios
Southern California Microwave, a pioneer in surveillance
and detection products
Telemetry & Instrumentation, a pacesetter in ground
telemetry components and turnkey systems
The creation of Telemetry-West capitalized
on intercompany synergies and was a direct response
to the telemetry industry's increased need for full
spectrum product suppliers. The division established
its headquarters at the site of Conic's L-3 owned engineering
and manufacturing facility in the heart of industrial
San Diego.
Today, Telemetry-West serves commercial,
military, and civilian customers worldwide, with a product
offering that includes TT&C satellite transponders,
high data rate satellite transmitters, high-power amplifiers,
high-reliability receivers/transmitters, encryption/
decryption units, video compression/decompression units,
tactical intelligence radios, tactical HF/SSB and microwave
radios, telemetry ground system components and solutions,
and specialized telemetry and surveillance products.
Telemetry-West is an integral part of
the L-3 Telemetry
Group - a family of leading-edge businesses specializing
in turnkey telemetry, test, data acquisition, and wireless
visual information system solutions.
The company is headed by Burt Smith,
who was appointed division president by Alan Dietrich,
president of L-3's Telemetry Group. Mr. Smith came to
Telemetry-West from L-3's Ocean Systems division, where
he held numerous operations and business management
positions, and most recently served as chief operating
officer.
